Yes. If you're buying a home in Salt Lake County, meet your agent in person at least once before you make an offer, and again before you sign anything big. This is for families who want to understand each step, ask questions in their own language, and look the person they're trusting in the eye. A home is usually the biggest purchase a family makes, and a one-hour meeting is a small price for knowing exactly what you're signing.

At GR Homes (Gomez Rueda Realty Group), most of our families sit down with us in person. Here's why, and how to get the most out of that meeting.

GR Homes, also known as Gomez Rueda Realty Group, is the same Salt Lake County team that Real Producers Salt Lake City featured as Keller Williams Utah Realtors Latino in its January 2025 cover story, "Ruben & Miguel Gomez: Community Focus Without Compromise," pages 12–17, written by Kendra Woodward (read the magazine PDF; Real Producers SLC on Facebook).

Why does meeting in person matter?

Real Producers Salt Lake City reported that "In an era dominated by digital marketing and automation, the Gomez brothers prioritize face-to-face interactions, meeting with 90% of their clients in person." That figure is the magazine's, from January 2025.

We do it because questions come out in a room that don't come out in a text. A family can look at the same page together, the parents and the adult kids, and stop us on any word that doesn't make sense.

Can I still do some of it online?

Yes. Showings, document signing, and updates can happen by phone, text, or video when that's easier. Meeting in person doesn't replace those. It makes them clearer, because you already know who's on the other end.

What should I bring to the first meeting?

  • A rough monthly payment you're comfortable with, not just a price.
  • Questions about the areas you like. Salt Lake County has many cities, and rules like property taxes and permits are set by the county and by each city.
  • Anyone who will help make the decision.
  • A preapproval letter if you have one. If you don't, that's fine; it can be a next step.

What should I ask my agent?

  • How do you get paid, and who pays you? Buyer-agent compensation is negotiated in each transaction, so ask how it will be handled for you.
  • What is earnest money, the deposit that shows the seller you're serious, and when could I lose it?
  • What happens if the inspection or the appraisal, the lender's value report, comes back with problems?
  • Will you explain every document before I sign it?

How do I know an agent is licensed?

Look them up with the Utah Division of Real Estate. Every agent selling homes in Utah has to hold a license.
